Camping Arolla Campsite View

In the heart of the Swiss Alps, at an altitude of 1 950 meters, Camping Arolla is situated in a beautiful position with a panorama of stunning mountains and glaciers. It offers dozens of routes and walks of every variety starting just a stone’s throw away.

 

The Campsite

The campsite is open from june 15 until 10th September 2017

New: From now on you can rent 1/2 or 3/4 persons tents.

The campground

The campsite has pleasant large and flat pitches.
All the campsite has nice alpine grass.

The plugs are Swiss or European.

A free Wifi (Wlan) connection is accessible from most parts of the campsite.

 

The sanitaries

The campsite has large, modern and well-maintained sanitary facilities.

There are dedicated sinks for clothes washing, and washing machines are free for our guests.

 

Reception and shop

At the reception you will always find a warm and friendly welcome.
We can provide you with good practical information about activities in the area, including walks and hikes.

We have a little shop where you'll find grocery, gaz and fuel, maps, drinks...
Fresh bread is delivered every day starting at 8H00. You must order the bread the day before.

In the village you'll also find 2 groceries, a sport shop, a post office and a tourism office.

Rates for 2017. All prices are indicated in Swiss Francs and all taxes inclusive. The municipal tax of stay 2017 has increased but the share of the camping price remains identical to that of 2016

Longer hiking routes

Rando1

Several well known alpine hikes go through Arolla.

On the Chamonix-Zermatt hike the campsite is the stop between Pra-Fleuri and Moiry.
For the Tour du Cervin (Matterhorn tour), Arolla is an important stop before crossing to Italy over Col Collon.
The campsite in Arolla is the stop N° 20 of Chemin des cols Alpins (Suisse walking route N° 6).

Glacier hiking

Apart the summits there are also several glacier hiking routes in the upper Val d'Hérens.
The glacier hiking routes needs a good knowledge of high mountain. You need also adequate equipment.

- Crossing of Plateau d'Hérens between Cabane de la Dent Blanche and Cabane Bertol.
- Crossing between Cabane des Vignettes et le Refuge des Bouquetins ou la Cabane Bertol.
- Crossing between Cabane des Dix and Cabane des Vignettes via Col de la Serpentine.
- Route Arolla - Zermatt via Tête Blanche and Col d'Hérens.

You can also combine these routes to make a very nice 4 or 5 days glacier hike.

Huts

Six mountain huts are directly accessible from Arolla.
You can make a stop in these huts for the next days hike or climb.
These huts also make a nice target for a day’s walk.

At the campsite, under certain conditions, we don't charge for the nights you stay in huts.
For Example: you camp for several days with 2 people one tent and a car.
The nights you stay on the camping we charge for 2 people, one tent and one car.
The night you stay in a hut we only charge for the tent and the car.

Access

Acces1

By car

If you drive on the highway take the direction to Sion. At the "Sion Est" exit, follow direction «Val d’Hérens».
After 45 minutes of driving up you arrive at Arolla. The campsite is before the village of Arolla on the left.

By train and bus

Take a train or car until the railway station in Sion.
Right in front of the railway station take a bus for "Arolla". Ask the driver to stop for you at the campsite.

By airplane

The easiest way is to take a flight until Geneva.
At Geneva airport take the train to Sion and then the bus to Arolla (3 hours approx.)

By walking

From Pra Fleuri hut via Pas de Chèvres. From Italy via Col Collon.
From Zermatt via Col d'Hérens. From Zinal via Moiry and la Sage.

Frequently asked questions ...

Why couldn't we make a reservation for a pitch ?

Our pitches are not delimited and have no numbers.
For this reason, it is not possible to book in advance.
The campsite is large and we usually have sufficient space to welcome all campers.
For groups, please contact us through the form on the right ...

Is there a children playground and a swimming-pool ?

No.

What is the temperature at night ?

This is difficult to predict. It depends on the periods, the winds etc …
Usually we have between 4°C and 7°C in the morning but it can get much colder.
It is recommended to have gear adapted to this altitude.

Do you have chalets or caravans to rent ?

No, we do not have any static rentals.

Is it allowed to make some fire ?

It is strictly forbidden to have such fires on our beautiful alpine grass!
Elevated barbecues are allowed but you should respect your neighbours.

Is there an Internet access on the campground ?

Yes. Most parts of the campground are covered by a Wifi (Wlan) network.
This network is free for our guests.

Can we pay with a credit card ?

Yes. We accept most credit and bank cards.

Do you have a grocery ? Do you sale bread ?

Yes we have a little grocery. We sell bread but you have to order it the day before.
In the village (15 minuts walk or 3 minuts by car) you'll find two bigger groceries.

Do you have a freezer for ice blocks ?

Yes. You can use the freezer for your iceblocks.
We don’t accept either water bottles or food in the freezer. It is strictly reserved for ice blocks.

How long is the sun shining on the campsite ?

The sunshine times vary in the season. The sun arrives at 8h30 and leaves at 19h00 beginning of July.
End of August, the sun arrives at 9h30 and leaves at 18h30.

Do you organise Karaoke or Disco in the evening ?

No :o)

Are there some electric connections ?

Yes, some parts of the campsite pitches have electric connections.
Terrace A (for caravans and camper vans) has 10 amp european plug connections.
Terrace B (for tents) has also a few 10 amp swiss plug connections.

I want to come without my car. Is it possible ?

Yes. We have a lot of guests coming with no car and staying several weeks on the campsite.
All services and shops are accessible by walking or by bus. No need for a car.
We have more and more people coming by airplane to Geneva and then by train and bus (see Access).

What are the hiking maps for the Arolla area ?

We recommend the 1/25000 map from TopoRando named "Val d'Hérens".
This map covers all the valley. We have it allways in stock at the camping.
